Schooling and Licensing Requirements in Virginia
There are some education and examination requirements to obtain a license to practice massage therapy in the state of Virginia.
You will need to complete at least 500 hours of education at a school approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
There is some discretion about the exams approved by the board. So if you have some professional experience and have passed exams I recommend checking with the board if you’re eligible.
Otherwise, you will need to take the Licensing Examination of the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards, known as the MBLEx. Or one of the other nationally recognized exams.
If you’re unsure about any of the requirements or have any questions, I recommend contacting the Virginia Board of Nursing who is the governing body for licensing in Virginia.
