Schooling and Licensing Requirements in Texas
You need to complete some education and examination requirements to obtain a license to practice massage therapy in the state of Texas.
You’ll have to complete a minimum of 500 hours education at an approved school. This will be split across the following areas:
- 200 hours – Massage therapy techniques and practice
- 50 hours – Anatomy
- 50 hours – Kinesiology
- 50 hours – Internship
- 45 hours – Business law and ethics
- 40 hours – Pathology
- 25 hours – Physiology
- 20 hours – Hygiene, health, and first aid
- 20 hours – Hydrotherapy
You will also need to pass the MBLEx. This is one of the nationally recognized exams as set by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
