Schooling and Licensing Requirements in Texas

You need to complete some education and examination requirements to obtain a license to practice massage therapy in the state of Texas.

You’ll have to complete a minimum of 500 hours education at an approved school. This will be split across the following areas:

  • 200 hours – Massage therapy techniques and practice
  • 50 hours – Anatomy
  • 50 hours – Kinesiology
  • 50 hours – Internship
  • 45 hours – Business law and ethics
  • 40 hours – Pathology
  • 25 hours – Physiology
  • 20 hours – Hygiene, health, and first aid
  • 20 hours – Hydrotherapy

You will also need to pass the MBLEx. This is one of the nationally recognized exams as set by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
