Schooling and Licensing Requirements in New York
There are some education and examination requirements to obtain a license from the New York State Board for Massage Therapy.
You will need to complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of education at an approved school. These hours will include the following topics:
- 325 hours – Massage therapy techniques
- 200 hours – Anatomy, physiology, and neurology
- 150 hours – Myology and kinesiology instruction
- 100 hours – Pathology
The remaining hours will cover a wide range of massage techniques and modalities, your school will take you through what you need to cover.
You will also need to pass a state-specific exam as set by the New York Board. It’s a 140 question exam that covers a wide range of areas you will have covered at your school.
