Schooling and Licensing Requirements in New Mexico

There are some education and examination requirements to obtain a massage therapy license in the state of New Mexico.

If you have no previous experience you will need to complete a minimum of 650 hours at an approved school.

These hours will include:

  • 165 hours – Anatomy and physiology
  • 150 hours – Massage therapy training
  • 40 hours – Pathology
  • 75 hours – General instruction

The remaining hours will cover various massage techniques and modalities as instructed by your school.

As of 2015 the only exam the state of New Mexico recognized as part of the license requirements is the MBLEx.

If you’re unsure about any of these requirements or want to check for the most up-to-date information I recommend pinging a question to the New Mexico Massage Therapy Board.
