The benefits of massage therapy are well documented. And, with all the different forms of massage therapy, there’s a type of massage for almost any mental or physical concern.
Kahuna massage is an incredibly relaxing form of massage. The benefits of Kahuna massage transcend just the physical soft tissue work associated with most forms of massage.
There are a lot of spiritual and mental benefits of this ancient form of massage practiced for hundreds of years by the ‘Kahuna’s’ on the Hawaiian islands.
As the recipient of a Kahuna massage, it’s up to you to lose yourself deep in this therapy as the therapist almost ‘dances’ around you using their hands, fingers, elbows, and arms in rhythmical motion.
If you’re willing to embrace a Kahuna massage you can experience deeply profound, introspective, and enlightening feelings. That’s what makes this form of massage therapy so interesting.
Benefits of Kahuna Massage
Some of the key benefits include:
- A deep sense of inner peace and relaxation
- Relief from soft tissue tension and injuries
- Stimulation of your body’s lymphatic function to flush harmful toxins
- A boost in natural energy
- Mental clarity and improved focus and concentration
- A greater sense of overall well-being
- Improved self-awareness and introspection
- Improved spiritual balance and understanding
- Improved circulation
These are just some of the potential benefits you can experience. It’s hard to put into words just how you feel after a Kahuna massage.
As you will see from the video below. The way the therapist interacts with clients is very unique, their movements transfer energy between themselves and the client.
Key Principles of Kahuna Massage
To get the most from a Kahuna massage, or a Lomi Lomi massage as it’s also called you need to understand the principles this massage was developed on.
There are seven key principles behind this form of massage therapy. The Hawaiian words and meanings are as follows:
‘Ike’ – This means awareness. You will gain a greater sense of self-awareness from a lomilomi massage.
‘Kala’ – This means freedom. The feeling of being free as negative emotions and tension is released.
‘Makia’ – This means focus. You’ll achieve better focus and concentration from this form of massage. Great for helping you with everything from small daily tasks to larger life goals.
‘Manawa’ – This means being here now. Being present in the moment is an important part of understanding how we feel and what we want from life.
‘Aloha’ – This means being happy. There are few things to match the feeling of true happiness that can be unlocked with such deep, satisfying massage.
‘Mana’ – This means confident. Confidence is another benefit that can help you in all aspects of your life and help you achieve your potential.
‘Pono’ – This means positive. It’s easy to get caught up in our day-to-day lives and lose sight of what a positive mindset has done for us before. A Kahuna massage will help restore your positivity.
My Personal Experience with Kahuna Massage
I’ve had a few different Kahuna and Lomi Lomi massages over the years and I absolutely loved each experience.
Each massage was different as I went to a different location and therapist each time. The nature of the massage itself is very personal and each therapist brings their own unique personality to the therapy.
I felt that spiritual connection that a Kahuna session is supposed to help you connect with. It’s hard to put into words, but after my first session, I had a profound feeling that lasted for days.
I couldn’t quite place exactly what I was feeling at first. But during my second massage a few weeks later I got it. I drifted into deep thought, and although I don’t really want to try and explain what I was thinking, it was amazing!
I can’t recommend the experience of a Kahuna massage enough. Even if you’re not a believer, or you’re not interested in a spiritual experience, there are so many wellness benefits of Kahuna Massage that you shouldn’t pass on one.
You’ll leave the table feeling physically and mentally rejuvenated. You’ll have a better understanding of your own body, feel happier, and have a more positive outlook on life.
It’s a beautiful thing!
