Dating a Massage Therapist – 10 Things You Need to Know
1. You’re Not Going to Get Infinite Free Massages
I know, I know.
This is probably the number one question people ask when they find out I’m a massage therapist.
“Do you give free massages to your partner?”
The answer is no, not really.
It’s nice to be able to give each other a quick back rub or foot rub after a long day, but it’s not the same as a professional massage.
And to be honest, after massaging other people all day, the last thing most massage therapists want to do is give their tired hands and arms another workout!

2. They’re Often Tired at The End of The Day
Just like any other physical job, being a massage therapist can be physically and mentally draining.
After a long day of massaging clients, your partner is going to be tired.
They may not want to go out or may need to take a nap when they get home.
It’s important to be understanding and give them the space they need to relax.
3. They Don’t Often Work 9-5 Hours
The hours of a massage therapist can be irregular.
They may have to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends to accommodate their clients’ schedules.
This can make it difficult to plan date nights or other activities together.
It’s important to be flexible and understanding of your partner’s schedule.
4. They’re Considerate of Your Boundaries
One of the things I love about massage therapists is that they are very considerate of your personal boundaries.
They know how to touch people in a way that is respectful and professional.
This can be a great quality in a partner!
They also learn to be considerate, and caring, and how to deal with people from a wide range of personalities and backgrounds.
5. They Are Great Listeners
Massage therapists are great listeners!
They know how to be quiet and listen to their clients without judgment.
This is a great quality in a partner.
If you need someone to talk to, your massage therapist partner will be there for you.
Listening is an important part of being a good partner, and massage therapists are experts at it.
6. They Might Be Stressed Often
Like a lot of jobs, being a massage therapist can be stressful at times.
They may have to deal with difficult clients, long hours, or demanding schedules.
It’s important to be understanding and supportive if your partner is feeling stressed.
You can help by offering to give them a massage, listening to them vent about their day, or just being there for them.
Massage therapists have short career lifespans with an average of just 6-8 years, that’s a testament to how stressful it can be.
7. They’re Probably Going to Get Hit on A Lot
Unfortunately, being a massage therapist also means dealing with a lot of inappropriate comments and advances from clients.
This can be really frustrating and overwhelming.
It’s important to be supportive and understanding if your partner is dealing with this type of situation.
You can help by listening to them vent about their day, but it’s important that you don’t get jealous or accuse them of anything – it’s all part of the job for them.
8. Your Friends Are Going to Ask Them a Lot of Questions About Massage
If you’re dating a massage therapist, be prepared for your friends and family to ask them a lot of questions about massage!
They may want to know what it’s like to give massages, or they may want tips on how to get a better massage.
It’s important to be understanding and patient if your partner is constantly being bombarded with questions.
You can help by deflecting some of the questions or by telling your friends and family to respect your partner’s privacy.

9. They’re Waiting for You to Offer Them a Massage!
Believe it or not, most massage therapists would love for their partners to offer to give them a massage.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve ever given someone a massage before, your partner will appreciate the gesture.
It’s a great way to show your support and understanding for what they do.
Plus, it’s a chance for you to bond and relax together.
10. Maybe I’m Biased, but Massage Therapists Are Awesome!
I may be biased, but I think massage therapists are awesome!
They’re caring, considerate, flexible, and great listeners.
Not to mention, they know how to give an amazing massage.
If you’re looking for a partner who will support and understand you, then look no further than a massage therapist!
Dating a massage therapist comes with some challenges, but it can be a great experience!
