Snoring is a snorting or wheezing noise that varies from incredibly loud to almost unnoticeable. The best essential oils to stop snoring can help reducing the volume of snoring and offer a natural solution to the problem.
Snoring can be a huge problem in relationships. The worst part is that the person snoring typically doesn’t notice they are snoring. It’s the other person in the room (or the next room) that has the disturbed sleep.
The noise is generated from the tissues and soft palate in the mouth, the throat and the nose all vibrating. It’s estimated that one in four people snore, and it’s something that seems to be on the increase.

What Are the Main Causes of Snoring?
The noise is created by the vibrations of the soft tissues in your neck and head vibrating as you breathe while you sleep. When you are asleep your airways relax and this causes them to narrow making a breathing obstruction. You may have noticed this become worse if you have a cold or suffer with sinusitis as this also narrows the passageways.
A few factors that increase the risk of snoring include:
- Smoking
- Drinking a lot of alcohol
- Being overweight
- Sleeping position
- Sinus congestion

How to Use Essential Oils to Stop Snoring
There are a few different ways to use essential oils to help deal with snoring. See which of the following methods works best for you:
A Few Drops on Your Pillow
This is an obvious choice to get the oils close to your nose while you’re sleeping. Be very careful not to let the oil come into contact with your mouth or eyes as this can cause some serious irritation.
Using a Diffuser
Diffusers spray the oil into the air over several hours. This allows you to absorb the oil properties in moderation while you sleep which is an effective way to treat snoring and sleeping disorders.

Applying to Your Feet
This is a method that has proven very effective for a lot of people. Take a carrier oil, add a couple of drops of essential oil and rub it into the sole of your foot before going to bed.
