I love cooking with apples and spices, and these Ayurveda Stewed Apples Recipes are perfect examples of healthy, easy, and tasty meals that you can whip up in a matter of minutes.
You can calm vata with these warm and spicy apple dishes. They are perfect for breakfast, as fruit is best digested first thing in the morning.
Or, you can make this snack for lunch, later in the evening, it really doesn’t matter.
Apples are great for digestive health. As well as being packed with important nutritional content like vitamin C, vitamin K, fiber, and when combined with species you can give yourself a real energy boost.

Spicy Ayurveda Stewed Apples – Recipe 1
If you want a recipe with a bit of a spicy kick this is the one for you. I love how spices work with the flavor of apples, particularly ginger and cinnamon.
This is a great dish to serve up any time of the day. It’s a good power breakfast, or just as satisfying as an evening snack.
Ingredients:
- 4-5 Medium sized apples of your preference
- 2 Tablespoons of ghee
- ½ Tablespoon of finely diced ginger
- ½ Tablespoon of cardamom powder
- ¼ Tablespoon of cinnamon powder
- ½ Cup of water
Directions:
- Start the ghee warming in a saucepan and add the ginger.
- Peel, remove the cores and chop up the apples.
- Add the cardamom and ginger to the saucepan and simmer for a couple of minutes.
- Add the sliced apples and stir until they are coated with the other ingredients.
- Add some water to the saucepan, covering about half of the height of the apples and simmer until tender.
Ayurveda Stewed Apples with Nuts – Recipe 2
This recipe uses nuts, however you can still make this recipe without nuts if you have any allergies or just don’t want to use them.
What I love about these stewed apple recipes is that you can make them your own by adding or removing flavors to suit your tastes.
Ingredients:
- 4-5 Medium sized apples of your preference
- 3 Tablespoons of ghee
- ½ Cup of brown sugar
- ½ Cup of raisins
- ¼ Cup of sliced almonds
- ½ Teaspoon of nutmeg
- ¼ Tablespoon of cinnamon
- ½ Cup of water
Directions:
- Start the ghee warming in a saucepan.
- Peel, remove the cores, and chop up the apples.
- Mix the cinnamon, brown sugar, raisins, nutmeg, almonds, and water to the saucepan and gently stir.
- Bring the mixture to boil until you see it start to thicken.
- Reduce the heat and add the apple slices, mix them in and coat them in the mixture.
- Continue to cook at medium heat for a few minutes while gently stirring as the sauce thickens.
- Reduce the heat and allow the apples to cook for a further 5-8 minutes until the apple slices are tender.
There you go. Two easy, quick recipes that use apples and spices for an early morning change of energy to set you up for the day.
