Tips when Writing Your Own Thank You Note when Receiving Money for A Graduation Gift

If you want to write your own thank you note, some tips and best practices to keep in mind are to:

  • Thank the person for their generosity (no matter the amount) as they didn’t have to send you money, but they chose to.
  • Describe what you plan to use the money for if applicable, it’s nice for the sender to know their hard-earned money is going to go to good use.
  • Express your appreciation and gratitude, there are a number of ways you can do this as covered in the thank you examples above.
  • End your note with an expression of good wishes, let them know you look forward to seeing them, or similar.

I’m asked a lot about the tone to use in a thank you note. This comes down to you, your personal preference, and the person you’re thanking.

You should be you; if you’re a bit goofy in person, then let that shine through by saying something a bit silly.

Although, if the person you’re writing to is someone who wouldn’t appreciate that tone, keep it formal and sensible.

The real art of thanking someone in a way that’s going to resonate with them is to use the tone and language that they appreciate.

That’s something to keep in mind.
